This might sound obvious, but when ordering made-to-measure wallpaper you will need the correct wall measurements! For professionals with experience this may be simple, but to the layman there may be a few questions. We have created this blog post to answer any questions so that you can get the perfect dimensions every time!
At Peel & Paper, we get many questions about specific walls as well as more general measuring questions. We will go through each of these to help you to know where to start and what to include in your measurements.
Double-Check Your Units!
Firstly, you need to check which units you are measuring in. On our website we accept centimetres, inches, or feet, so you need to know which one to pick! Have a look at which units you are reading from on the tape measure - it should be labelled. Normally, wall heights range between 90-120 inches, 7-10 feet, or 230-300 centimetres, so this may help you find which units you are using!
What To Include
You need to be measuring the whole area which you wish to cover with wallpaper. You don't need to measure any baseboards, coving or trim - unless you want to put wallpaper on them!
Rectangular or Square Walls
These walls are the easiest to measure. Be aware though, that your wall may look perfectly rectangular, but it will not be! Almost no walls are perfectly straight.
To get your width, you simply extend the tape measure from left to right on the wall horizontally, and read the number from the tape. For the height, extend the tape measure top to bottom vertically, not including any areas not to be papered.
We recommend taking at least two measurements for the width (one near the top and one near the bottom) and picking the highest number. For the height, measure the height at each side of the wall and pick the highest.
Non-Square Walls
Walls which are differently shaped are not quite as simple. When we print your wallpaper, we are only able to be print it as a rectangle, so we need to find the tallest and widest points to ensure full coverage.
To get your width measurement, simply extend the tape measure from left to right horizontally at the widest point and read the number from the tape. To get the height, extend the tape measure from the top to bottom vertically at the tallest point, not including any areas not to be papered.
If you are not sure which points are the tallest and widest, take a few measurements and use the largest number.
